vi
The proof shows that on the next day after the disturbance an armed force composed of 8 to 10 of the citizens of Crockett, pursued Dr Hunsaker with the avowed object of hostility toward Dr. Hunsaker, when he was on his way to Centerville to report his acts to Capt. Bradford, and to procure sufficient force to quiet the disturbance

vii I then submit, viewing the whole transaction in its proper light, and taking all the evidence together, and putting the true and legitimate construction upon the same, I am driven to the irresistable conclusion that my orders were legitimate, and that I and my guard acted on the defensive all the while; and that no act of mine would authorize my suspension for a moment, all of which I respectfully submit to your candid and impartial dicession
