I have taken the course indicated for the following reasons

1st. I did not consider D.H. Crisp good as security

2nd He claimed that A.S. Crisp had no interest in the crop producing as proof a receipt from A.S. Crisp (for $1500) Fifteen hundred dollars specie in full for all demands that was said to be executed in Galveston but was neither witnessed nor stamped consequently illegal

3rd Because Dr D.H. Crisp showed me his letter of instructions from Dr. J.H. Crisp who instead of directing him to pay off his debts in this County directed every cent to be charged into sterling Bills of Exchanges & forwarded to him at Rio de Janiero Brazil

As the case now stands Hanford & Willard are innocent purchasers & are perfectly willing to pay over to me the amount
