January 1867 we paid a draft drawn by Mr. Norwood in favor of Thos P Fallom for $100.00 Gold which Norwood advises under the date of 19th Jany 1866 as being for the benefit of the two freedmen & which letter we also hand you enclosed Marked "C" and in which he again states the freedmen owed him near Two hundred Dollars again proving the freedmen were not applying to us but all the dealings were between Norwood & the freedmen.
On the 4th of April we sold the Cotton for $442 98/00 Gold which was credited to Mr. Norwoods accounts we sent him the separate account sales of $387 70/00 & $255 78/00 & rendered him his account.
In conclusion, permit us to state that we have acted honestly in this matter there being a full & distinct understanding with the freedmen. Had it been otherwise we should not have paid the money to Mr. Norwood but paid the same to the freedmen.
Mr. Norwood has Cotton yet on hand which if delivered to us we will sell & pay you for the account of the freedmen.
Yours truly
