Sir
Mrs. NP. Rawlings by her Attorney's presents to me a petition for the release of 156 5/10 Acres of land at mound Prairie. This land was sold by her Husband to W T. Brewer, Agent for the C.S.A. for the purpose of erecting a Cotton Factory.

The building as Stated in my Monthly reports are now on the land. The land mentioned was sold to WT. Brewer and by him transfered to J J Busby Agent and Qr. M. of the C.S.A. J.J. Busby on is own account bought from Rawlings and wife 223 Acres of land, which he Busby sold to Mrs. Furlow & Mrs. Furlow sold the same to W H. Gaston; and Mrs. Rawlings signed away her rights to said land. The 156 5/10 Acres, being sold previous to the sale of the tract of 223. and the residence being on the 223 Acres that was her Homestead.

Taking all things into Consideration, I think it would be an act of charity to release the land, but at the same time the Factory and other buildings erected and are now [[strikethrough]] standing [[/strikethrough]] on said land, are clearly the property of the U.S. Government. The C.S Government bilt the buildings on the land, and there is not doubt but that Rawlings made a deed to the land to Brewer.

In my communication of may the 31st 1867. You will find that I inclosed a true copy of the Original deed.
Respectfully [[strikethrough]] respectfully [[/strikethrough]]
