I have the honor to report that last evening after sun down a desperado named Ben Griffith entered our town armed with three six shooters and a double barreled gun, He was known by several of the citizens to whom he spoke, informing them that his party (naming Baker Bickerstoff and English) were just at the edge of the town and he was waiting for them to come up. He kept his gun cocked and the butt on his thigh, said that they had been below and killed two yankees and four negroes and burned a train of commissary stores and that they were to assemble, twenty
