was in town, and we at once had an interview with him. I found Mr. Wilson a plain, honest=looking man, & such is his reputation throughout the county. Mr. Wilson said he lived 1 1/2 miles from these two freedmen, to whom he had leased land; that he had heard that Peter & Allen had gone off some where, but he knew nothing of where they had gone, or their reasons for so doing. Mr. Wilson's impression, however, was that Peter and Allen became alarmed at an occurrence which took place Oct 24th whereby five freedmen were shot down in cold blood by some unknown persons. (The particulars of the killing of the five men I shall make the subject of a separate report.)

On the 12th inst, in company with the Sheriff, I went to see Peter's family - wife & 3 children. They knew nothing of where Peter had gone. I took the statement of Peter's wife, as follows:

Louisa House (f.w.c.) being duly sworn, said: My name is Louisa House. I am Peter House's wife. Peter left home on Friday, Oct 30th, & said he was going down to see Uncle Mark. Have not seen him since Don't know what has become of him.
