unusual intelligence and knew well the nature of the agreement he entered into with Mr Hall and Mr Leaverton his former owner read it over to him carefully and explained it paragraph after paragraph before signing and he stated at the time that he thoroughly understood it and that it was exactly in accordance with the previous understanding of Mr Hall & himself.—

Now General, I appeal to you in behalf of my stepfather Mr Hall in the name of justice to have this matter thoroughly investigated as feel assured that he has been greivously wronged and I am convinced that sufficient time was not given him to make his defence. as my testimony had it been before the Court would I think materially benefitted him, as it was I had no intimation a suit being brought until I received from Mr Hall a letter enclosing the accompanying order, stating that US Marshall had seized his property & had been ordered to seize any thing on his place, to satisfy this unjust demand.— Hoping that you will give this matter your early attention I am
