Susanna Flournoy, freedwoman, sworn says: "I was engaged as a cook for Mrs. Babb, Dr. Beale's daughter at four dollars a month, and to work for her for one year, from last Christmas till Christmas next.  I worked about four months for her. Mrs. McCown told us that they would kill us if we stayed with Dr. Beal and Mrs. Babb. Mr. Hart and Mr. James came to me with pistols and told me and Lina that folks were going to kill us over there. I thought that he meant himself when he said folks. I wouldn't have gone if they hadn't made me go. They then carried me off to Mr. Hart's. They carried off Snowball, Jo. Brisco and Lina at the same time. Snowball and Brisco they took to Mr. Hart's, and Lina they took to Mr. Boyd's.  I cried very much, I was so badly scared. Mr. Hart promised to give me as much as Dr. Beale was giving me, viz: $4.00 per month."
