Mr. Hart's voice in the yard. The negroes were carried off that night, January, 67. The next day Mr. Hart, & Mr. Boyd and Mr. James came for the clothing of the negroes carried off. Lina Snowball, Matthew Snowball, Susanna Flournoy and Jo Brisco are the names of the negroes carried off. I was in feeble health and had a small child; it was a cold night. I was so frightened by Mr. Hart and the others that I run with my baby into the woods, and remained there until they were gone. I had heard a great many threats made against my father Dr. Beale by Mr. Hart and Mr. Boyd. On the next day after the abduction of the negroes, Mr. Hart, Mr. Boyd & Mr. James came to my house for the negroes things. I said to Mr. Hart, "Mr. Hart, you were here last night, I knew your voice." He then stated that he kept nothing behind the curtains; that he was there, and said, "tell your father that if he did'n't go to law with us, they would be as they had been, but if he goes to law with us it will be hard times." I believe that my life and my father's are constantly in danger from the threats of Mr. Boyd and Mr. Hart. I am afraid to go to bed at nights for fear of these men."

Dr. W.C. Beale. M.D., sworn says: "I had complied with the contracts with the freedmen. Messrs. Hart, James, & Boyd came to my residence after night in the latter part of Jan'y. 1867., I heard a noise
