Answer:- "I heard them say that Mr. Hart never forced them away but if he had not come there they would not have left."

Decision: For plaintiff, That W.E. Hart, and O.P. Boyd, each pay to Dr. W.C. Beale, $250.00 as compensation for the loss of the services of the freedpeople for eight months: and that Mr. Hart and Boyd each pay the sum of $250.00 to be divided equally among the freedpeople.

Mr. Hart and Mr. Boyd will remain in custody until the above named sums be paid.

Freedman James, witness for defense being sworn testifies: "I asked Jo Brisco and Matthew Snowball how they came to leave Dr. Beale's.  They replied it was sickly there and was uncertain about pay, said they came over one Sunday to see Mr. Hart to whom they formerly belonged and told him if he would come over and go with them they would leave there. Were afraid to go alone. Afraid of the Doctor.  I told them they must have got scared off. They said they left because they wanted to. They wanted to work for Mr Hart.
