After Mr. J. died Mrs J. who was then sick got up from her sick bed delerious got a freedman to bring her into Columbus in a cart and was taken to Harris office.

Before J. died he said to his wife,--if either of us die it will be the fault of Harris who has neglected us so= She states that when brought to the office of Harris she accused him of killing her husband--

Mrs J. was taken by Harris in this half crazy condition to his house placed upon the floor on a blanket and when dying (as they supposed) the pillow on which her head was lying was taken from her.

The next day she was taken by some freedmen to one of their houses and taken care of until she recovered. When she took the money they had earned for teaching paid her husbands burial expenses and barely able to travel came to Galveston where I saw her. She is now there an object of Charity - I have not written one half she told me. She says to all that Major Harris killed her husband and left her to die. During the time they were sick although it was known to Harris he never went out to see them. Their calls upon him for Medical attendance I have already explained [[strikethrough]] that [[/strikethrough]] he failed to notice.
