When I arrived at Belton, Wednesday morning, I found a wagon there from Waco with rations for my men, the wagon had reached Belton the night before and when I came in the driver was intoxicated, and the man who came with him as a guard was under the influence of liquor though not as drunk as the driver.  Between Waco and Belton the driver had lost three mules from his wagon, and having been informed that they had been seen in Salado I sent Corp. Kelas Co. R. 6" Cavy, with the driver to bring them in.

About half an hour after they left Belton, the corporal returned with the drivers horse and pistol and reported that the driver drew his pistol and snapped it at the corporal six times, it failing to go off other times, the corporal then knocked the driver off his horse, took the pistol from him and returned to town.
