I have the honor to acknowledge by reference to this office the receipt of your note to Secretary Whipple, dated Nov 26th 1867.
The sole charge and control of the work of the AMA in its Western Department of which this State of Texas forms a part is committed to the Secy in charge of this office.
Responding to your overture, I have to say, that four teachers under one Commission are already in Texas, and usefully at work. Three more went forward a few days since in charge of Mr Allen as Special Agent, and two more will follow in a few days.
We certainly desire to conform to all regulations of the officers of the Freedmens Bureau, and with a single exception, which it is unnecessary to recall, have never had a difference (in this Department) with any such officer. The
