Your petitioner Adalaide Spencer a Freedwoman residing in the County of Brazoria, State of Texas, respectfully represents to you, that in the month of July 1867. Maj. Genl Griffin, after a careful personal examination of the case, made an order, ordering Christopher C. Millican, a citizen of Wharton County, State of Texas, to pay your petitioner the sum of. Five hundred dollars, damages sustained by her for his cruelly whipping and otherwise maltreating her in the Fall of the year 1865, and ordered the said Millican to pay your petitioner $250.00/100 at the time, and the remaining $250.00/100 by the 1st of October last which extension of payment was made at the request of said C. C. Millican. That he paid the $250.00/100 at the time, but the remaining $250.00/100 to be paid the 1st of October, he has never paid to her. Your petitioner refers you to the Records of Maj Genl Griffin containing said order, and respectfully petitions you for an order to be served by the proper Officer, requiring the said Millican to pay said remaining $250.00/100 without further delay.
