Colorado County

To the Sheriff or any Constable of said County greeting:

Whereas complaint in writing has been made before me Gus Metz, a Justice of the Peace in and for said County of Colorado, on the oath of Elizabeth Hoffman that E C Powell a transient person did on the morning of the 27th June 1868 set on fire a small house used as a Barber shop it being in the town of Columbus, County aforesaid, and that the said house together with a number of other houses was burned at the same time, and that the said E C Powell as she, the said Elizabeth Hoffman verily believes, wilfully burned the same.  

And affiant further makes complaint that on the said morning of the fire (to wit) 27th June 1868, that E C Powell did in the county aforesaid fraudulently and wrongfully took and carried away from and out of the possession of her, the said Elizabeth Hoffman, without her consent $100 in gold, belonging to her, the said Mrs E Hoffman, with intent as she believes to deprive her of the same and to appropriate the same to the use and benefit of himself, the said E C Powell.  

You are thereby commanded to arrest the body of the said E C Powell forthwith and bring him before me at my office to answer the aforesaid complaints of arson and theft and to be further dealt with according to law.  Herein fail not
