Old planters say the prospect for a cotton crop was never better. It is already in bloom and is some localities picking has [[strikethrough]] already [[/strikethrough]] commenced. The worm which for the past 2 or 3 years has rendered the crop an almost entire failure throughout the state, it is believed, has run its course and blacks and whites are jubilant at the prospect of once more making a good crop of cotton. No doubt the failure of this important crop in years past has played an important part, and to a great extent influenced the feelings and conduct of the whites in their treatment of the freedpeople and vice versa.
