After court adjourned I promised Sayers — Jones partner and who was also engaged in defense of these same men that I would bring up the case again on the following Thursday. On Thursday June 4th, court met at 2 P.M. and Wm McGinnis one of the prosecuting came into court and asked a postponement of the case because of important business in which he was engaged wherupon Joseph C. Sayers atty for the defense got up and demanded a discharge of the prisoners_ I declined to discharge them before an investigation was had wherupon he commenced to abuse [[strikethrough]] m [[/strikethrough]] the Court as an appointee of the military authorities_ I told him not to use such language — that the court must be respected and fined him $10.00 hoping that would stop his abusive and insulting language to me.
