Personally appeared before me this the 8 day of June 1868. C.V. Schaefer. Mayor of Bastrop Bastrop County, Texas who being duly sworn according to law deposeth and says. That on Thursday the 4 day of June 1868, he was present at the Justice Court, John M Beavers presiding. I was seated in the County Court room close to the Magistrates' room and in full view of it through a door which connected the two rooms. I heard loud angry talking which from its nature elicited my attention. I noticed that this demonstration was being made by Joseph Sayers Attorney for the parties on trial. I heard the Magistrate say to Mr. Sayers "I shall fine you ten dollars" and casting his eye towards the door said, "Mr. Sheriff take Mr. Sayers into custody", Mr. Sayers said, "I would like to see the Sheriff or any other damn man take me." at this time there was a temporary lull. soon the confusion commenced again, Sayers taking the floor and renewed his tirade against the Magistrate and controlling powers generally, then the Magistrate remarked, I shall not allow any more politics to be discussed here, Sayers retorted "I shall do what I damn
