Headquarters Fifth Military District,
State of Texas,
BUREAU OF REFUGEES, FREEDMEN, AND ABANDONED LANDS,
OFFICE OF ACTING ASSISTANT QUARTERMASTER AND DISBURSING OFFICER,
Austin, Texas, September 19th 1868.

Major General O.O. Howard.
Comr. Bureau R. F and A. L.
Washington. D.C.
General:
I have the honor to request that Henry Young be appointed a special agent in this Bureau, at a salary of sixty ($60) dollars per month to date from Sept. 1st 1868. Mr. Young is a capable intelligent, well educated man and has for nearly a year performed the duties of Sub. Asst Comr. at Austin Texas, under the nominal superintendence of the Post Commander, in a manner to merit the commendation of all.
I recommend him unhesitatingly as particularly qualified for the position I ask for him, which in my opinion his previous services have amply deserved.
I am General,
Very respectfully,
Your obedient servant.
