Lieut. Van Horn,
Commanding Post of Houston.

Lieutenant:
I would most respectfully ask for a position as clerk at Head Quarters in this place. I would here state, that I have been a soldier in the Union Army during the late war and was honorably discharged. For sometime after my discharge I served with Col. J.C. DeGress and Capt. Porter in the Freedmen's Bureau in the capacity of clerk.
