Brooklyn, N.Y.

Dear Madam:-
Your letter of September 23rd, came this morning, and as I am in the midst of a rush of affairs this week, I am compelled to send a typewritten letter, which I trust you will pardon.

No. 1 , Vol. 1. - "The Scrip", is also at hand, and I am looking forward next week to a careful examination of the same. Let me wish the new enterprise every success.

Concerning your courteous request that I write an article on the "Art of Whistler" for your magazine, I beg to say that I must ask you to excuse me from doing so. I have already declined similar requests from a number of American and European magazines. My excuse is of a personal nature.

The criticism you speak of as coming from unsympathetic sources, has been based upon very slight knowledge both of the man and his work, and the effect thereof is of no consequence whatever.

Yours very sincerely,
Charles L Freer
