80 Detroit, Oct. 2, 1905. Mr. Charles J. Morse, 1825 Asbury Ave., Evanston, Ill. My Dear Mr. MOrse:- I am glad to have your good letter of Sept. 29 th telling me of your experiences with Kobayashi. He certainly is a most difficult person to deal with. However, I managed this year to avoid irritation or prolonged discussions with him. I found that the easiest way to manage him is to give him a night in which to consider any business propositions which you may have to offer. It takes him a long time to make up his mind. Did he show you the three Kakemonos by Hokusai? One of the three representing a land scape with a tree-crowned ledge of rocks and a huge breaking wave in the foreground, seemed to me attractive but his price, $1000, is exorbitant. He will probably carry it with him on his travels through America and the day before he leaves this country send it on to me at a reasonable price. I wish you could have been here during General Suzuki's visit. He is a splendid type of the best kind of Japanese men.
