Dear Prof. Fenollosa:-

The dinner to Mr. Newberry ended very delightfully, but much regret was expressed at your absence.

Mr. Matsuki finished his work here and went to Boston on the 6:10 train last evening. In addition to the three pieces of pottery; I purchased the following paintings:-

Henzuehei --- landscape
Shubun ------ landscape
Shubun ------ portrait of Rinzai
Moyeki ------ tiger
Keyshoki ---- land-scape and two figures
Nobuzane ---- portrait of Kobo Daishi, as a child.
Shunsho ----- two girls
Sori -------- building and two figures

Matsuki has, for a long time, wanted a small specimen of Dewings work. And yesterday morning he saw a small nude figure in pastel for which he expressed a very strong liking. In-as-much as it was one I could well spare from my collection of Dewing's work, I gave it to him. And then he insisted upon my accepting from him as a gift, in true Japanese style, the screen attributed to Sotatsu with the Shiki by Koyetsu. So, after all, the Koyetsu Shiki will remain here. I am very glad to have them, and perhaps some day they can be taken off of the Sotatsu screen and re-arranged in appropriate form by themselves.

I had several conversations with Matsuki concerning the Kaki Makemono. And he finally agreed to askyou for a letter of introduction for his brother to Kano Tomonobu, and to have those two gentlemen examine the painting and make their report as early as possible.
