My dear Sir:-

Your favor of October 31st is here. And I note with interest that Sir Henry Irving's "Famous Old Battersea Bridge" is to be sold shortly at Christie's, and that no mention is made of Sir Henry's own portrait. I remember having seen the portrait with you at Sir Henry's home, and also later in the Edinburgh Exhibition. It is an interesting specimen of Whistler's work, and I am wondering where it will eventually land.

"The Old Battersea Bridge" I do not recall. Is it a large or small canvas? Have you a photograph of it that you could send for my examination?

We are having a delightful autumn in America. And I am kept quite busy in looking after the rebuilding of the rear of my house, which I am making fire-proof so as to give better protection to my collections.

Hoping you are keeping very well, I remain,

Very sincerely yours,
Charles L Freer
