Dear Mr. Way:--
Your kind letter of November 29th; also the pack-age of three drawings, came in this morning's mail. I shall preserve the drawings with care, and I enclose herein, with pleasure, draft payable to your order for thirty pounds. I prefer to make the remittance direct to you, instead of to Mrs. Whistler, because I have not the honor of her acquaintance.

I note with interest, your remarks concerning the approaching sale of the portrait of Irving. It is a very great master piece, and I trust it will fall into the hands of some public gallery who will appreciate and care for it.

I am glad to say that the strikes in the building trade in New York have not effected Detroit workmen, and the additions to my house are moving along fairly well. Naturally in a year, as busy as this one is, delays occur because of the great scarci-ty of building materials. It now looks as if practically all of the winter would be required to complete my work now under way. However, when it is done I will have the great satisfac-tion of knowing that my collections are absolutely protected against fire.

Wishing you the compliments of the season, I remain,
Very sincerely yours,
CLF Signed
