Dear Sir:--
Your letter of December 20th came to hand this morning and gives me my first intimation concerning the difficulty existing between Mrs. De Witt and my sister. Naturally, I deeply regret that there should be any unpleasantness, but I must say that I have no authority in the premises and that Mrs. De Witt's belief that I "exercised a supervision over Miss Freer's business affairs" in entirely erroneous.

Regretting that I cannot co-operate with your generous efforts to amicably dispose of the matter, I remain,
Very respectfully yours,
Charles L Freer
