All of the above are superb specimens of art, and we are satisfied of the authenticity of all excepting the two screens attributed to Motonobu. It is barely possible that one, and perhaps the both of them, are by Utonoske. Fenollosa says that if they are by Utonoske, they are the most beautiful specimens of his work he has ever seen. He raises this point of identification, feeling that superb as they are, it is better for the present, to think of them as by Utonoske, rather than Motonobu, particularly because of the lack of facilities offered by my collection for comparison with other specimens of Motonobu's and Utonoske's work. Furthermore, because of the very high prices placed upon these two screens by Kobayashi.

Of the other things received from Kobayashi, both Fenollosa and myself feel that the Matakei is [[strikethrough]] a [[/strikethrough]] genuine [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] & by the Echizen Matakei, but the price is too high for so unimportant an example.

A number of the screens by Sotatsu, Korin and Kenzan received, are doubtless genuine, but no finer than specimens
