saw a man named Paul Rector (colored) driving a team of 5 yokes of steers We rode up to him and while talking to him the two white men described above rode up - we talked with Paul Rector on dry Creek about his wagon and other matters he said he received $15.00 per month and said that his time was worth in Reb Terms 20 or 25 dollars. - The light skinned man described above said I am a Reb. I fought 4 years - The two white men then rode off & I said as they were riding off Gentlemen there is a lot of horses perhaps the mare you are hunting is among them; They said they would go and look and come back in a few minutes. I then went to where my steers were and found they two young men there; They asked me if my horse was pretty fast. I told them I had never run him. They then asked whose horses they were. I said they were Mr. Chapmans horses. After some talking they pulled their revolvers out They asked me what size my revolver was. I told them Army Size. They wanted to see it, I told them I never showed my revolver. The fair skinned man said he would not steal any pistol. The steers had walked off and I asked Henry where the steers were. The dark sinned man said they were on this side of the creek, but I saw them the other side of the creek.

"I and Henry went the other side the creek and started the steers. The 2 young white men went with us after a while they dropped behind us
