to [[strikethrough]] who [[/strikethrough]] know what our business was I said we interested to find out where Mr. Cole lived at, he said he was Mr Cole's 1/2 brother and could tell us where he lived. I asked him if he know Alleck Cole, he said he did for he was now gone off. I asked him if he [[strikethrough]] k [[/strikethrough]] had heard any thing about the murder of dry Creek he said he had not - He then directed us to the road to Coles house - telling us to turn to the right until we came to Sandy and there follow Sandy down to the house - when we came to Sandy we found it ran towards the left of the road we came over, were surprised that we had been deceived and hurried up as quietly as possible, The first thing we saw about 1/2 a mile from Coles house was a horse that had been hard ridden. I halted the men dismounted and crept up to a crack in the house, and there saw Mr Clemens, the man who directed us at the last house he was talking to three men and I heard him say that if he had known Alleck was going to take his blood horse worth $200 he would not have let him go with it he would rather have let him take the one he was riding. The man replied to him he will be back with it. I called up my men and Clements came out of the house and went get on his horse
