Dear Mr. Freer,

I was awfully, awfully, sorry that I could not get out to Detroit for Thursday evening, as you so kindly invited me. Nothing could have given me more pleasure, and pride too, than to have made just that kind of address to the visiting delegates. The special significance of your unique contribution, in collecting, between Whistler's work and Oriental art, has never been adequately stated, or I think.
