and drove above a perfect sea of clouds. As to color! we have heretofore seen nothing equal to it. The effects of spring and summer are blended with the autumnal tints and produce the perfection of tones. Later of course, we will see only the russets and brown mingled with the evergreens. The roadside and forest, the stream and the sky, have each a glory of their own, and as we have seen them thus far, they stand for the perfect ripeness of life and tell us that life is worth living. The somber effects of November we look for later. We expect to
