advanced to Mrs. Saint Gaudens. I would like Mr. Russel to hold the bonds as per agreement, and continue until the sum of $25,000. or as much of it as may be required by Mrs. Saint Gaudens is drawn and I would like to repay his advances as rapidly as my funds will allow.

Thus far I have drawn on my letter of credit £2,550. Today I shall use £100. more. It is not at all likely that I shall need more than £200 or £300 more until I reach Japan about April 1st. After that I may grow extravagant again.

I am sorry for the Barbours and poor Mr. Rhoades. What shocking thoughts they must suffer. Rhoades is such an invalid and Stella's husband is far from well. If you have a chance kindly say a word to Ed Barbour for me.

Until I reach Japan mail for and from me will, I fancy, be somewhat irregular because of my travels in Java, where I shall move rather rapidly and in out of the way places. Batavia will be my only address in Java.

With all good wishes to yourself, your family and all inquiring friends. Yours very sincerely
