Dear Colonel Hecker.
I have your good letter of April 16th and cablegram announcing my election to the Chairmanship of the Yondotega and Phil's place on the Board of Governors. I wish that someone more competent and a better club man might have been chosen to succeed Will, but the honor given me is deeply appreciated and I shall act until someone better equiped can be found.
I am particularly glad that Phil accepted a place on the Board. I wired you expressing my acknowledgment of the election and asking you to "set up the bottles" which I have no doubt received the attention of the members.
I am glad, too that Mr. Ryan was made President of P.D & Co. He is young able and progressive and if given proper assistance in the various departments, as he doubtless will, he will surely advance the firm. Mr. Hargraves should be given greater power
