My dear Mr. Mead:-

Referring to the conversation and correspondence had with you concerning the frame which Stanford designed for the Thayer picture: I saw Thayer lately and through him I have learned that the frame belonging to Stanford and loaned by him to Thayer in which to temporarily exhibit his picture at the society Exhibition of last Spring, is now in the hands of the Artists' Shipping and Packing Association of New York, and Thayer and I both believe that it will do as a permanent frame for his canvass: at least, we would both like to try it. You will remember that it is an old frame which belonged to Stanford's collection and which he had changed to meet the size of Thayer's canvass. I write now to inquire if it is for sale and if so, can I purchase it? I would also like to pay for the sketch for the frame for Thayer's picture which I spoke with you about at our last meeting.
