I shall not attempt any further description of it, as I want you to be able to judge it independently and without evidence outside of that which the picture itself portrays when you are next in Detroit.  Matsuki also brought a magnificent pair of screens by Motonobu, ink-painting - trees, waterfall, two hugh storks, pea fowls, landscape - superb! Also a stunning pair of screens by Moronobu, but whether or not my purse is long enough to reach these I do not know.  At this writing he has not even named his price for the screens, but the shrug of his shoulders, the firmness with which he grasps the sides of his trousers and the swaggering manner in which he struts before his treasures scares me. He has other fine things also, including an ink-painting of Daruma, fit for any collection in the world! Well, I will stop at this as it makes me faint to tell you of things which I shall probably be unable to purchase. You see if I buy all these things I shall have to abandon my trip and live in seclusion during the remainder of my life.

I am now planning to reach New York on Monday evening next and it looks as if I shall not have to go to Philadelphia; if this proves true, I shall be in the city
