in Kingston, New York, reaching the Hotel Belmont late that night. It is good of you to be willing to give me Tuesday forenoon from nine o'clock to twelve-thirty noon, and that seems to me to be the safest time to devote to the examination of the Yamanaka paintings. I have written Mr. Ushikubo asking him to meet us at this store at nine o'clock. I shall be there promptly and I think during the forenoon we can make the examination. I shall not sail until Thursday, but Wednesday and the most of Thursday morning will be jammed with many matters to which I must give attention, including some of business, so I trust for the pleasure of meeting you at Yamanaka's on Tuesday morning at nine o'clock.

Matsuki brought with him several screens and about ten or twelve kakemono. Of the screens I purchased a pair of mix-fold by Motonobu, certified by Kano Tomonobu. The subject is landscape with trees and birds. The right-hand screen has two large cranes, beautifully done: The left-hand screen has a hugh [[huge]] Phoenix and a peacock. The screens seem to me of exquisite quality. I also bought a portrait of Daruma by Mujun, concerning which Matsuki tells me Kano Tomonobu has written to you. It seems to an extraordinarily fine kakemono.
