Dear Thayer:-

Since my last letter to you - the one dated October thirty-first - considerable correspondence has been going on between Mr. McGuire of the Corcoran Gallery and myself. He insists upon maintaining the rules concerning the giving of prizes and I object to submit the pictures in my care to his conditions. The result is, we have agreed to disagree, and I shall not send to his exhibition anything in my collection. I would prefer also, that "The Angel" be omitted from the exhibition. On the other hand, if you feel like sending it and are willing to do so under your own name as owner, I would have no particular objection notwithstanding the fact that I am convinced the principle at issue is wrong. Instead of advancing the cause of American art, rules such as they have adopted are calculated to injure it.

Good news has just come from Mr. Mead, Stanford White's partner. He has succeeded in finding Sketch Number four which Mr. White designed for your picture, which was adopted by yourself and approved by Mr. Dewing. I am leaving
