a stone where the hinges are located, for the purpose of making this fastening, replacing the stone [[strikethrough]] work [[/strikethrough]] afterwards? If it is necessary to remove any stone work to effect this anchorage, would it not be better, if security could be got and the appearance be not affected, to devise an expansion bolt arrangement from the bar near the hinges into the face of the stone?

The gratings are not for ornamental purposes only, but are especially desired for protection against burglars.

It will not be necessary to send men from Philadelphia to erect the iron gratings when ready, because I think the contractor here who did the stone work, can furnish a good man to do the cutting.

Along with the pencil drawing referred to, I am returning to you the two drawings which you forwarded here. The delay in returning then was caused by a rather long delay in receiving one of them from Mr. Freer, and in obtaining the measurements of the openings and of the stone work.

I am also enclosing herewith, Steward & Stevens Iron Works proposal to do the work for $755.00.

I feel sure that Mr. Freer would like the work to proceed as rapidly as possible.

Trusting I have made myself clear, I remain,
Very truly yours,
JM Kennedy
