Bunkio Matsuki, Esquire,

Kobe, Japan.

My dear Sir:--

In compliance with the agreement made between ourselves, as per the various telegraphic correspondence had within the last ten days and in accordance with my cablegram of to-day, reading:--

"Remitting through Yokahoma Specie Bank, Kobe, to-day."

I have this day sent to you by cable, through Brown Brothers & Company of New York, payable to your order at the Yokahoma Specie Bank in Kobe, the sum of Twenty-seven thousand and Five hundred ($27,500.) dollars, the same being payment in full for the Roll by Kakei.

It is understood, as mentioned in my letter to you of September 16th, that the picture is to be delivered to me here by you personally, on your return from Japan in the near future.

I am sending off this hurried letter hoping it will reach you before you leave Japan.

Your interesting letter written early in August, in which you mention your plans for a trip to China and other matters of importance, came a few days ago, but instead of replying to it at length herein I shall reserve the pleasure of discussing all these items
