Mechlin's article, and of the payment to you of $1,500.00 account Mr. Ruelbach's note. The pictures sent by Mr. Montross were received at the house in due time and in good condition, and are cared for by Stephen.

On Monday last, I was pleased to receive your two letters written from Colombo on February 16th, and note what you say about the shipment from there, of the four cases, and understand the same. I was much amused at your description of the crows or of something or some one, which robbed your mail matter, and regret the loss to you of some of it. I am enclosing herewith, a copy of my letter of January 14th, showing enclosures 151 to 176 in separate envelopes. I understand from your letter that the loss did not cover anything earlier than enclosure No. 150, and enclosures subsequent to 176 were addressed to Batavia. Your letter states that envelopes addressed in my hand-writing, postmarked Detroit, January 6th, with newspaper clippings; another January 9th; another January 14th, were left in your room by the "birds".
