My dear Williams:--

I returned this morning from an absence of two weeks and found your kind letter of October 7th. enclosing one from Mr. Hugh Milliken.

It is a real pleasure to hear from you and your family, and it was good of you to send me such an appreciative young guest. Milliken is a charming young man and seemed very deeply interested in the collections. I hope to see him here again in the future.

Yes, it seems ages since I have an opportunity to grasp your hand. The present year has been an exceptionally active one to me. Beginning with December of last year I began an accurate description of the articles contained in my collection which have been given to the Smithsonian Institute. The job has been a very difficult one, and altho I have had excellent assistance, the work has disturbed me considerably. In fact, I feel pretty well worn out and have decided to spend the coming
