My dear Mr. Seligman:

When Mrs. Seligman was here for the lecture last Friday afternoon, I introduced her to Miss Jane Costello. I wished her to meet her personally because she is the student who, in our opinion, would be the best possible candidate to receive the fellowship which you have so kindly donated. Miss Costello is a candidate for the Ph.D. degree and has already taken all the necessary courses. This year she is working on her thesis which details with the early works of Poussin. Such a subject, it seems to be, would fit in perfectly with your wishes. Also, a few years ago she received a fellowship of $1500. given by the American Association of University Women, and two years previously received fellowships from the College Art Association. She has published three or four articles, and has recently been reading proof of a long article to be published by the Warburg Institute in London.

Again let me tell you how deeply grateful I am to you for this donation. Since last Spring I have known that she would need financial assistance this year, and I feel that she is the most outstanding person to receive the fellowship offered by you.

With kindest regards, and renewed appreciation of your assistance,

Sincerely yours,
Walter W. S. Cook
