The two cases of "Personal Effects & books" lettered A & B will be covered by a separate Consular invoice the lot valued at L25. Details of the value of the contents of these two cases went to you in an earlier letter can be easily explained by you to the custom inspector 

The whole value exclusive of the books and Greek manuscripts runs between one hundred and one hundred and twenty dollars. These two cases are to be turned over to the U.S. Express Go. at New York consigned to me in bond to Detroit.

As named in my earlier letter, all charges except cost of the articles, follow the packages. They will amount to a considerable sum. I fancy, for the red tape in this land surpasses that of all other countries.

And as for getting antiquities out of Egypt, it's worse than getting oneself out of Hades. I had a red hot fight with Pasha Breusgh but won out. So, alls well and today I am off Ceylon
