but taxes are levied, and some advance is being made in establishing schools for the Whites. I found that nothing had been done for the Colored. A meeting was expected in the Court House in Romney, but the authorities would not permit me to speak there: accordingly we held a meeting elsewhere, and explained to the Colored people what we wished to do, and what were their rights under the law. I think a School House will be erected in Romney, and Springfield, Hampshire Co. It is doubtful about our getting a House at Moorfield, Hardy Co. but there a school should be established as well as in the other two places before mentioned. These are the only places we can hope to occupy in those two Counties this season.

At a meeting held in Montgomery Co, Md. on the 24th ult. a very good feeling was manifest, and, judging from the interest awakened, several Houses will be erected during the season. Already land has been given at Brighton and a large subscription made for the house. The Quakers of Montgomery Co. of whom there are many, have done, and will do, much for the education of the Colored race.

Large educational meetings have also been held at Port Tobacco, Charles Co. and Leonardtown St Mary's Co. Md.
