Dear Mr. Bacon: -

I had the pleasure of visiting West Point on Monday last; and regret that the arrangements for the visit were not made early enough to enable me to invite you to join me. The heavy storm of Saturday night had damaged the wires, and communication between West Point and New York was very much interrupted.

I was greatly pleased with the Whistler Memorial; and want to thank you - personally, for the intelligent care you gave, not only to the monument, but also its setting, including all of the matters in connection therewith.

Mr. Holden is quite disturbed about the door-way leading into the Library, at the right of the Memorial; and he feels something should be done with it, and the space over the door-way, near to it. He also [[strikethrough]] feels [[/strikethrough]] [[illegible]] - if possible to introduce in the change, a tablet to the Memory of Poe; and he has handed me your letter to him, of November 14th; which I have noted, with interest. I want to give further consideration to the matter; and I hope that the next time I am in New York, it will be possible to have an interview
