Richard Rathbun, Esq.,
Care, Smithsonian Institution,
Washington, D.C.

Dear Mr. Rathbun-

I am glad to have your kind letter of December 2nd giving me news of the important Art happenings at your Institution.

Yes, I had a talk with Mr. Evans before he made his splendid offering, and I am sure that his superb gift will be a feature of the National Gallery of great future interest. I hope that Congress will find a way to give you every thing you needed to keep the good movement marching strongly on.

Many thanks for your offer to send me a copy of your Annual Report. I shall always be glad to receive copies of whatever documents you may publish for public distribution.

Since seeing you, I have visited the Orient and succeeded in securing for my Smithsonian Collections important additions. Some time during the Winter, I shall take the pleasure in filling a list thereof with you.

Believe me, with kind regards,

Very sincerely yours,
Charles L Freer
