Daniel Merriman, Esq.,
73 Bay State Road,
Boston, Mass,

Dear Sir:-

In the pressure of many matters of to-day, I am compelled to send a typewritten answer to your esteemed letter of December 12th, which I trust, you will excuse.

I sympathise deeply with your desire to secure for the Worcester Art Museum, a representative example of Whistler's work, and will gladly render any assistance within my power. I doubt if a thoroughly representative specimen will ever be found in the hands of dealers.

Miss. Rosalind Birnie-Philip, the Executrix of Mr. Whistler's Will has in her possession, some superb examples of the Master's work, but I cannot state definitely her views concerning their disposal, I do know, however, that some of the number are beyond the possibility of purchase. It may be that all are so held. Should you wish me to write her on your account, I will gladly do so, or, perhaps it would be better for you to write her direct. Her address is - "Miss. Rosalind Birnie-Philip, 103, Albert Bridge Road, Battersea, London, S. W. England".
