Daniel Merriman, Esq.,

Boston, Mass.

Dear Mr. Merriman:-
Your good letter dated Washington D.C. January 29th, is received, and I am glad that you have decided to accept Miss Birnie-Philip's offer to send the painting by Whistler on approval, and with the privilege of exhibiting it in your Museum, should you care to do so.

The work of American Artists living abroad, can be imported into this Country free of duty, and I suggest that you give me the address of some one in Boston who will act for you in the matter. Boston being a Port of Entry, it can be billed directly there In Bond. On receipt of a line from you naming the Agent to whom you wish it sent, I will send the information to Miss Birnie-Philip, and she will forward the picture accordingly.

I fancy that from three to four week's time will be required from the date if my letter to Miss Birnie-
