Mr. Orange: -2-

Many matters in America are now stirring public sentiment. As you know, the Democratic Party is in power at Washington and are busying themselves with many matters, particularly the tariff and income tax, new banking plans and many matters of less importance which will doubtless affect one way or the other many of our greatest industries. The action of the Californians against Japan seems to me rediculous and I fear we will find eventually that it is more the result of spite against the present Washington government than ill feeling against our friends, the Japanese. However, the whole affair seems to me very unfortunate.

Since February 1st, I have been spending the most of the time in New York City and vicinity enjoying the advantages of complete rest and change of climate. My present stay in Detroit will be short, as I intend to return to the Atlantic Coast where I find it possible to keep comparatively quiet and to keep my slowly returning strength. My address, however, will remain 33 Ferry Avenue, East, Detroit, as usual.

With kindest regards and wishing you a very pleasant visit in Europe, believe me,

Very sincerely yours,
