Respectfully returned to Capt. Craig, S.A. Comr. You will afford Mr Whann every protection in your power in order that his school be sustained. The children had a right to sing Union Songs and their procession had a right to March through the streets. It is the order that you notify the Editors of the Newspapers at Brenham that anything as pertaining to the school or Mr Whann or his wife of the nature heretofor published, or anything else which is untrue and calculated to do injury, will subject them to your official action. The school must be sustained and you will immediately and at times use the means placed in your hands to carry out that object.

Parties guilty of murder and other outrages upon Freedmen and Refugees must be brought to Justice.
